BOTH HID Lamp/LED IN A UNDERWATER DIVE LIGHT

LED and HID are two major light sources for hand-held torches, including dive lights, nowadays.

LEDs are more common among dive lights because

  • don’t have a filament to burn out or break, last much longer
  • instant on, convenient for frequent or potential on-off cycling
  • better battery life, can even be dimmed to conserve power

However, HID lighting is still preferred by most divers given that

  • superior intensity, much brighter than current LED configurations
  • tight focus, especially good in murky waters
  • excellent color for underwater video

DARKBUSTER3 combines both, a 24W HID as the primary light and a 5W LED as the backup.
